A California hairstylist named Chanel Darjean (@lasef_langka) recently shared a jaw-dropping story about one of her regular salon clients and it’s the kind of tale that makes you double-check your passport plans. According to Darjean, her client traveled to Mexico for a consultation and cosmetic procedures, thinking she had found a good deal.

It started off like many medical tourism stories do: attractive pricing, polished presentations, promises of smooth post-op care. As Darjean explained in her video, “She goes on to tell us that she went down to Mexico to have a consultation to get some cosmetic work done, some cosmetic surgery done, like … boobs, BBL type of stuff.”

The clinic allegedly walked her through recovery plans and pricing that “sounded good.” So good, in fact, that the woman mentioned her sister and friend might be interested too. And according to Darjean, the clinic leaned in.

The group was reportedly offered perks for going in together: “a bigger post-op apartment” and “the same caregiver” for all three women. For two weeks after surgery, everything seemed normal. Recovery appeared smooth. No red flags. But back in the U.S., things changed.

Darjean said her client started feeling unwell. Concerned, she went to see her doctor to figure out what was going on. That’s when the situation allegedly took a disturbing turn. “One thing leads to another. She finds out that they took a kidney,” Darjean recounted.

If that wasn’t horrifying enough, Darjean claims it didn’t stop there. After learning what allegedly happened, the client alerted her sister and friend who had undergone procedures at the same clinic. “They went to get checked out, and their kidneys were gone, too,” Darjean said. She wrapped up her story with a blunt observation: “So just thought I’d share that information with you because [expletive] is crazy out here.”

Naturally, the video caught attention, racking up thousands of views and sparking heated debate in the comments. Some viewers were stunned. Others questioned how something like that could happen without immediate detection. And plenty simply repeated one word: terrifying.

A Horror Story In The Making

Cosmetic surgery in Mexico is often significantly cheaper than in the United States. Some surgeons advertise prices that are “often 40% to 70% lower than in the United States.” That pricing gap has fueled a booming industry known as medical tourism, where patients travel internationally for procedures ranging from dental work to full cosmetic makeovers.

However, lower cost doesn’t automatically mean lower quality. Mexico is home to many reputable, globally accredited hospitals and skilled surgeons. Just like in California or anywhere else, there are excellent doctors and there are questionable ones.

Darjean ended her video with a dose of practical advice: “I know we want to look good and feel good and all that kind of stuff. But, you know, we need to make informed decisions. Crazy.”

TikTok Was Shocked

“That’s insane,” one person commented on the video. “Not the first time I’ve heard this,” said another. “I’m screaming,” a third person chimed in. “Can you imagine how she felt when the doctor told her this news???!” a fourth comment read.

Whether this California horror story represents a rare nightmare scenario or something more systemic, it’s a reminder that doing thorough research isn’t optional, it’s essential
